Works for Me Wednesday

Here's a supermarket shopping list that can keep any kid busy while shopping!
Here's how I made it!
I made a chart with 5 boxes in each column. One column I called "I need" and the other column "I found". Then I laminated it. Next I attached velcro dotes to each box. I then created "food cards". Each food card is a different food item we buy with the name and picture. I attached the opposite velcro dots on the backs of each "food card" after I laminated them. Before we go shopping, my son chooses 5 food items he will be responsible for finding at the store. While there, his job is to find the items. When it's in our cart he moves the card to the "I found" column. He loves feeling responsible for "his items" and playing scavenger hunt fo them. I love it because it keeps him busy while shopping.

I also use this activity book I found in Target. It's by Cranium/Bloom. It attaches to the cart with a velcro strap and you use a wipe off marker to do the cards.

This is SUCH a good idea! My 2-year-old loves to hold my list while I'm shopping - but she's not so into letting me look at it. LOL A "play" list like this could be our perfect solution. Thanks!

What an incredibly cute idea! I used to do something similar when DH was smaller. I found having them "help" you shop makes the trip that much smoother.

What a wonderful idea. My kids would love this, and it would really keep them focused.

If you have not already submitted this tip to Tip Junkie you totally should because it is wonderful, and so creative!

Nice idea! My 3 year old Monkey definitely can use the distraction. We play I-Spy and look for letters, but giving him his own list is a good idea!

What a great idea! I used to have 3x5 cards for the kids to flip and look for but I always ended up with cards all over the floor. I thought about putting them on a ring but decided it was too much trouble. I like that with yours they can be busy moving the velcro pieces. Is there a link for your Cranium book you found?
